Wolf Range Hood Repair

Wolf wall, island and insert hoods, which in deep Wellesley floor plans often sit at the end of a long duct run. Blowers and motors, speed control, lighting, baffle fit and duct connections are checked together, because weak extraction is as often the run as the fan.

Three cast hinge plates and a bracket on a towel beside a wire brush, screwdrivers, red-handled pliers, bolts and washers

Said on the phone

The complaint, in your words

  • Extraction weak even at the highest fan speed
  • Fan starting only after a delay, or not at all
  • Vibration from the blower housing at low speed
  • Filters loading with grease far faster than before

On the visit

What gets measured

  1. Blower current draw against the rating plate at every speed
  2. Baffle and mesh loading, and the grease trough behind them
  3. Damper flap travel at the hood and again at the wall or roof cap
  4. The duct run itself — crushes, long flexible sections, reductions

Money

One fixed number, and four things that move the rest.

Typical range · parts and labour together

Repair Range
Igniter or spark module replacement $280 – $630
Burner valve or orifice service $250 – $1,060
Oven thermostat or sensor calibration $130 – $660
Convection fan or motor $310 – $940
Control board or touch panel $510 – $1,590
Door hinge, glass or seal $210 – $960

The fixed number is the $95 service call: the visit, the readings and the diagnosis, credited in full against the repair once you approve it. Nothing past that is quoted over the phone, because nothing past that can honestly be quoted unseen.

  • Component or assembly. An igniter, a sensor or a switch is a component. A control board or a burner valve body is an assembly, and that is where the spread on an estimate comes from.
  • Gas half or electric half. A dual-fuel range is two appliances behind one fascia. Which half failed decides which trade the visit actually is.
  • Access to the back. Some faults are reachable from the front. Others need the appliance drawn out of a tight run of cabinetry and levelled again afterwards, and that is quoted as labour.
  • Carried or ordered. Igniters, sensors, switches and seals ride on the van. Boards, hinge assemblies and cavity parts for older platforms are ordered, which changes the shape of the appointment.

For scale: a comparable new appliance runs $6,610 – $18,760 for the unit alone, before delivery, installation, gas or electrical work and any cabinetry changes. That is the comparison worth making before agreeing to a large repair, and it is the one we will make with you.

  • The blower vibrated badly at its lowest speed and rattled the cabinet doors. One impeller had lost a balance weight. He fitted a new blower wheel and the low setting is smooth and quiet now.

  • Filters were loading with grease far faster than they used to. A cleaning service had refitted the baffles back to front, so air was going around them rather than through. Simple fix, clearly explained.

  • The fan would only start after a long delay, if it started at all, and we had stopped using it. The speed control module had a failing capacitor. Replaced, and while he was up the ladder he cleaned the baffles and relamped the whole thing.
